LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — Tropicana Las Vegas will be imploded in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Oct. 9, officials with Bally’s Corporation confirmed to 8 News Now on Monday.

The date had not previously been disclosed as the company made preparations to bring down the hotel towers to make way for the A’s stadium at the site.

“Pending approvals, Bally’s Corporation and the Oakland A’s are set to host a commemorative event on the morning of October 9, featuring a spectacular drone and fireworks display by Fireworks by Grucci concluding with the implosion of the Tropicana slated for 2:30 a.m.,” according to a Bally’s spokesperson.

Implosions have typically been carried out overnight as officials seek to minimize the impact of dust and traffic disruptions that come along with previous spectacles. Bally’s officials would not confirm the time of the planned detonation.

    Additional details were not disclosed.

Bally’s has a permit to set up the demolition from Sept. 30 through Oct. 8 . The 22-story concrete Tropicana Club tower and the 22-story steel Paradise Tower are expected to come down in “a single explosive event.”

The resort closed on April 2, marking the end of an era on the south Strip — and a new era that would begin when the A’s move to Las Vegas for the 2028 season.

Controlled Demolition is the contractor for the project.

Count officials confirmed in mid-July tht asbestos abatement work was still in progress.
