( KRON ) — Two suspects were arrested for theft at a Kohl’s store earlier this week, the Campbell Police Department (CPD) announced on social media on Friday. Police said the theft happened on Aug. 27 around 3:15 p.m. at the Kohl’s on E. Hamilton Avenue.

Campbell police received a report of a male and female suspect “actively removing security sensors from clothing.” The two then ran out of the store in a getaway vehicle, which was stolen in San Jose, police said.

The two suspects — identified as Sunnyvale man KC Vernon Pries, 38, and San Jose woman Mary Jo Devera, 48 — then exited the vehicle and tried to run away to a nearby neighborhood. According to CPD, Devera was caught first and arrested down the street from Kohl’s.

CPD officers then established a perimeter to track Pries down. With the help of police drones, Pries was spotted hiding on a residential rooftop. Police said Pries was safely taken into custody without further incident.

Both Pries and Devera have “extensive criminal histories,” CPD said.

Pries has been arrested more than 25 times since 2004. Devera has been arrested eight times since 2001.

Video posted by CPD (above) shows the two suspects walking around the store before running out to a getaway vehicle. The male suspect was also seen trying out clothes on the sales floor.

Pries and Devera were booked into jail for resisting arrest, conspiracy to commit a crime, retail theft, vehicle theft, possession of burglary tools, stolen personal identifying information and drug paraphernalia. Pries was in violation of his parole, police said.
