( KRON ) — A fisherman who allegedly stabbed a windsurfer at the Berkeley Marina on Sunday has been arrested, the Berkeley Police Department said. BPD officers responded at 3:08 p.m. to a report of a stabbing.

It was reported, according to police, that the fisherman got into a dispute with the windsurfer after the windsurfer got tangled in the fisherman’s line — causing him to lose his pole in the Bay. When they met on the shoreline, the two allegedly got into an altercation that led to the fisherman stabbing the windsurfer in the shoulder with a knife.

Officers arriving at the scene spotted the fisherman driving away on University Avenue. He was detained without further incident, police said. The windsurfer, a man in his 50s, was taken to the hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Jimmy Ray Ellis of Hercules. He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
