( KRON ) — Two former students at Dublin High School have been arrested in connection to an assault that occurred on campus last month. Dublin Police Services announced the arrests on Friday, stemming from an assault that took place on Friday, Aug. 23.

Gerald Coats, 18, was arrested for felony assault, child abuse and trespassing. A 17-year-old boy was also arrested for felony assault, police said. Both were former students in the Dublin Unified School District.

The incident in question occurred when five adults allegedly entered campus to confront and attack a student. The incident occurred on a Friday afternoon after classes had ended.

“They followed him into the locker room and assaulted him. Our football players and Coach Kaufman aided in stopping the situation,” Principal Maureen Byrne wrote. “Much of what transpired before and after the assault is captured on video and the police have identified a number of those involved.”

Student athletes and their coach interceded to stop the violence in the locker room. The victim, a 15-year-old student, suffered facial and head injuries and was treated at a local hospital and released.

According to police, the 17-year-old who was arrested has a “familial relationship” with a female student connected to the incident and her mother. Dublin Police Services School Resources Officers are leading the investigation and are working to identify additional services, locate video evidence, and gather witness leads.

Investigators are also still working to determine a motive for the attack.

At this time, police said, there appears to have been previous conflicts between the victim and the female student and her mother. The female student and her mother confronted the victim about these conflicts, police said.

However, neither the female student nor her mother was involved in the attack, police said. Nor did the mother coordinate the attack.

The investigation, police said, remains active and ongoing.
