SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A new grocery store is set to open at San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf, taking over the former Safeway location.

Board of Supervisors President and District 3 Representative Aaron Peskin announced Monday that Grocery Outlet will move into the North Point Shopping Center. An official opening date has not been provided.

Safeway, a longtime tenant, left the location over concerns about public safety in the area.

Supervisor Peskin, who is currently running for mayor in this year’s San Francisco election, said he successfully brokered a deal between the property owner and Grocery Outlet. The agreement includes potential tax breaks and increased safety measures at North Point.

The new Grocery Outlet will be 30,000 square feet.
