SAN FRANCISCO ( KRON ) — A San Francisco police officer was hospitalized after attempting to detain a robbery suspect in the south Mission District on Monday, police said.

The San Francisco Police Department said officers were patrolling the area of 24th and Mission streets on Wednesday night.

At around 7:32 p.m., officers said they were “attempting” to detain a “possible” theft or robbery suspect. During the investigation, SFPD said the suspect resisted arrest, which led to a physical altercation.

“The suspect was eventually detained, but one of the officers was injured during the incident,” San Francisco police said.

After the arrest, the police officer — who was not identified by PD — was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said this is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about the altercation is asked to contact SFPD.
