Fatal traffic collision closes I-580 off-ramp in Oakland: CHP

( KRON ) — A fatal traffic collision prompted the California Highway Patrol to advise all drivers to seek alternate routes on Oakland’s Interstate 580 on Tuesday afternoon.

At around 1 p.m., CHP Oakland reported two to three vehicles involved in a crash eastbound I-580 to the Seminary Avenue off-ramp.

One person died in the crash, CHP said. At 1:30 p.m., a coroner was sent to the scene.

Officials did not specify any other injuries involving the crash when this report was published.

At 3:34 p.m., CHP said Caltrans crews were on the scene repairing a “damaged guardrail” and removing debris by the offramp. At around 4:20 p.m., CHP said all lanes reopened.
