( KRON ) — A woman was awakened Tuesday night to the sound of footsteps in her Palo Alto home, followed by discovering an unknown person fleeing out her door, according to the Palo Alto Police Department.

Police are investigating the burglary of an occupied home on the 390 block of Laguna Avenue. Dispatch received a report at around 9 p.m. that the woman, who is in her 50s, was investigating the sound of footsteps in her home when she saw the suspect running away.

Responding officers learned that the suspect entered the home by smashing a sliding glass door in an unoccupied bedroom. The intruder then rummaged through drawers inside a closet, Palo Alto PD said, though nothing appeared to have been taken.
