    Willow Fire north of Concord now 70 acres, 30 percent contained

    ( KRON ) — Firefighters are battling a brush fire near Willow Pass Road north of Concord Wednesday afternoon. As of around 2:30 p.m., the blaze had spread to 70 acres and was 30 percent contained, according to CalFire.

    Forward progress on the blaze has been halted

    The fire has been dubbed the “Willow Fire.” Firefighters were first dispatched to the blaze around 1:19 p.m., according to CalFire.

    Cal Fire is responding to the fire along with Contra Costa County Fire Protection District personnel. The fire is burning near Willow Pass and Avila Road, according to officials.

    Photos posted by CalFire showed a lot of smoke emanating from the fire which appears to be burning alongside Highway 4.

    There was no immediate word on injuries or if structures were threatened. According to the National Weather Service, winds in the area from the west-southwest are gusting up to 24 mph.
