Police investigate homicide in Orinda Thursday

ORINDA, Calif. ( KRON ) — A homicide investigation has blocked off a residential area of Orinda Thursday afternoon. Police tape is surrounding the road at the intersection of Las Vegas Road and La Espiral, north of Highway 24.

The Orinda Police Department, Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department and Lafayette Police Department are investigating at the scene.

Neighbors told KRON4 they heard yelling and tires screeching and that they believed this could be a road rage incident. Sheriff officials arrived at the scene at about 11 a.m.

Officers arrived and said they found a gunshot victim. Contra Costa County Sheriff officials immediately took life-saving measures, but the victim — a male from Orinda — died at the scene, police said.

Officers said they detained a “person” for further investigation. They did not specify whether the person was a suspect or witness.

“This is an isolated incident, and there is no further risk to the public,” sheriff officials said.

The neighborhood, residents say, is typically quiet. However, earlier on Thursday, some of them said they heard yelling outside and something that sounded like gunshots.
