Tony’s Pizza in SF cracks top 10 best in the world list

SAN FRANCISCO ( KRON ) — A San Francisco pizzeria has been ranked as one of the top 10 best pizzerias in the world. Tony’s Pizza Napoletana was ranked number 6 out of the top 50 in the world by the Italian pizza guide “50 Top Pizza.”

Located on Stockton Street in North Beach, Tony’s earned plaudits for its “excellent” Neapolitan-style pizza that was offered in marinara, margherita and Capodimonte style. However, the guide offered special praise for Tony’s Detroit style, calling it “truly remarkable” with “generous topping, just as it should be,” and a “really interesting bite.”

Tony’s seven-pizza tasting menu was also singled out for praise with the guide calling it a “truly immersive journey into the world of pizza.” The service, according to the guide, is “very fast, friendly, and available to customers.”

Located in the heart of North Beach, Tony’s is the brainchild of 13-time World Pizza Champion, Tony Gemignani.

Tony’s was the only California spot to crack the top 10 and one of only two to make the top 50 with Los Angeles’s Pizzeria Sei coming in at number 33. Top honors went to New York’s Una Pizza Napoletana.
