Man, 89, found unconscious in Los Altos after suspected assault

( KRON ) — The Los Altos Police Department is investigating a possible assault with a deadly weapon on an 89-year-old man on Monday.

Los Altos officers responded to the area near Foothill Expressway and Highway 280 at about 3:23 p.m. for the report of a person lying unconscious next to the railroad tracks. The 89-year-old victim had life-threatening injuries, police said.

The victim was taken to a trauma center and is now in stable condition. Police believe he was struck in the head.

Investigators questioned a person of interest who is believed to be an acquaintance of the victim. Still, police are seeking more information.

Los Altos police ask anyone who was in the area of Foothill Expressway between Homestead Road and Cristo Rey Drive between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Tuesday to view any security footage they might have.
