Suspects in violent San Jose machete attack arrested

( KRON ) — Three suspects have been arrested in connection to a violent machete attack that took place last summer, the San Jose Police Department announced Wednesday. The attack took place at around 10:54 p.m. on June 27 on the 2600 block of Alum Rock Avenue.

SJPD patrol officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the parking lot of a business. At the scene, officers located a man suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was taken to the hospital with major but non-life threatening injuries.

According to police, a preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had gotten into an altercation earlier in the day with three men. After parting ways, the suspects searched for the victim, eventually locating him in the parking lot, and attacking him with machetes.

Detectives with the SJPD Assaults Unit launched a thorough investigation and identified three suspects:

• Juan Ramirez, 43, of San Jose
• Eddie Herena, 41, of Martinez
• Raul Moreno, 43, of San Jose

Herena, according to police, was convicted for a 2005 homicide in San Jose and released from prison in 2018. Detectives obtained arrest warrants for all three suspects and a search warrant for Herena’s residence.

On Sept. 10, officers located and arrested Herena in Martinez. Ramirez was located and arrested the same day in San Jose. The following day, Sept. 11, Moreno was located and arrested in San Jose.

All three suspects, police said, were booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail for attempted murder.

“These suspects sought out their victim and knew they wanted to take a life,” said Acting SJPD Chief of Police Paul Joseph. “Violent criminals have no place in our community and I am grateful our detectives acted swiftly to put these suspects behind bars.”
