( KRON ) — A 23-year-old Oakland man was arrested Monday after police said he brandished a handgun and demanded money from a Rite Aid clerk in San Leandro.

San Leandro Police Department officers responded at around 1 p.m. to the Rite Aid store on 1355 MacArthur Boulevard on a report of an armed robbery. Police learned that the suspect was making a purchase when he demanded money from the cashier while lifting his sweatshirt to show a concealed handgun.

The Rite Aid clerk handed over cash to the suspect before the man fled the scene in a vehicle, San Leandro PD said.

The suspect vehicle was located through the use of automated license plate readers at the 8400 block of Edgewater Drive in Oakland. Kyimiereyae Jones, 23, of Oakland, was arrested an hour after the robbery took place, police said.

According to authorities, Jones possessed some of the stolen cash and a stolen handgun.

Jones was charged Tuesday with robbery and weapon violations by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, SLPD said.
