( KRON ) — A woman was fatally struck while running across Highway 101 lanes in Santa Rosa early Friday morning, the California Highway Patrol confirmed with KRON4.

Officers started receiving calls of a female pedestrian on Highway 101’s southbound lanes just past midnight. “(The woman) was described as being on the white line between the shoulder and slow lane,” CHP said.

According to CHP, the first responding unit arrived approximately six minutes after the initial report. Officers tried to contact the woman, but CHP told KRON4 she started running across all southbound lanes, eventually into northbound lanes.

At 12:15 a.m., the woman was fatally struck by two sedan cars while running northbound on Hwy 101, CHP said. Her identity was not released.

Officials said both sedan drivers were cooperative following the crash and that alcohol was not a factor for both drivers. “The sobriety of the pedestrian is still under investigation,” CHP said.

All lanes were closed for about six hours, CHP said.
