PETALUMA, Calif. (KRON) — The Petaluma Police Department (PPD) has a suspect in custody after a man targeted and wounded a woman in a BB gun shooting attack.

On Sept. 17 at 10:58 p.m., PPD said officers responded to the 100 block of Howard Street for a report of a bleeding woman, shouting that she had been shot. The victim told police that a man in a blue vehicle had fired several rounds at her from a BB gun, striking her in the hand.

When the victim tried to run for safety to a neighbor’s backyard, she said the man tracked her down after exiting his vehicle, walked up to her and shot her in the back of the head. She suffered a punctured head wound and was taken to a nearby hospital, said officials.

PPD said nearby surveillance video helped them locate the driver, Christopher Caballero, 19, of Petaluma, and his vehicle. Officers said crime evidence was “inside the vehicle in plain view.” His passenger in the vehicle has not yet been identified, said police.

Caballero was arrested for conspiracy to commit a crime, and assault with a deadly weapon, said investigators.

PPD said the case remains open and active as they look to identify the other suspect.
