SAN FRANCISCO ( KRON ) — Hundreds of residents of a San Francisco neighborhood were told to evacuate on Tuesday after a gas leak. The evacuation order has since been lifted.

The San Francisco Fire Department called the evacuations a “precaution” and said there is currently no threat to the public.

San Francisco temperatures expected to hit mid-90s Tuesday

The evacuation is for residents south of Paul Avenue on Crane Street, Exeter Street and Gould Street SFFD and police officers went door-to-door to tell residents to evacuate or shelter in place.

An air-conditioned Muni bus was sent for residents who evacuated.

PG&E said that at 10:30 a.m., a third-party construction crew damaged a gas line on Paul Avenue. PG&E crews stopped the release of gas by 5:10 p.m.

Crews are working to repair the damaged line. Seven hundred PG&E natural gas customers lost service as repairs are underway.

There is no estimated time for service to be restored.
