    Driver arrested for DUI after person in sleeping bag struck and killed in Berkeley

    ( KRON ) — A driver who allegedly ran over and killed someone in a sleeping bag at Aquatic Park in Berkeley early Wednesday morning has been arrested for DUI, KRON4.com has confirmed. According to the Berkeley Police Department, it happened just off the roundabout at Berkeley’s South Aquatic Park at around 4:32 a.m.

    Berkeley police received a call reporting that someone was pinned under a vehicle and died as a result of the collision. The driver, a 40-year-old man, was cooperating with police earlier in the investigation and has since been arrested for DUI.

    The victim was in a sleeping bag that was partially in the roadway when the collision occurred. Motorists are being advised to avoid the area. The entrance to South Aquatic Park is expected to remain closed for several hours.

    Berkeley PD’s Fatal Accident Investigation Team is handling the investigation.
