(KRON) — Two young men were shot to death near berry farms east of Watsonville on Friday, investigators said.

The shooting happened on a rural stretch of Carlton Road where several farms are located. Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene at 12:43 a.m. Friday and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The victims, who are both 21 years old, died at the scene. “The release of their identities is pending notification of their families,” the sheriff’s office wrote.

It’s unclear if any arrests have been made. Detectives said they are working to determine a motive behind the violence. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 831-471-1121.
