Coyote ‘lethally removed’ after several dog attacks in SF: National Park Service

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The National Park Service has confirmed that a coyote responsible for several recent pet attacks at Crissy Field in San Francisco, which also displayed aggression toward people without dogs, has been “lethally removed.”

In a statement posted on Presidio.gov , the National Park Service and Presidio Trust staff reported that they began monitoring Crissy Field in late September after receiving reports of coyote attacks on dogs.

Despite numerous attempts to scare off the coyotes, one coyote continued to attack pets, including on-leash dogs, and exhibited “unusually bold behavior” toward people who were not accompanied by dogs.

The NPS and the Presidio Trust decided to “lethally remove” the aggressive coyote in adherence to “established wildlife management practices.” Officials noted that the coyote’s DNA matched the samples from two dogs that were bitten at Crissy Field.
