( KRON ) — The San Jose Fire Department responded to a gas leak Wednesday morning in the Windmill Springs neighborhood after a gas main was ruptured, according to officials. Nearby residences were asked to shelter-in-place before repairs were made shortly after noon.

Red flag warning for Bay Area issued Thursday through Saturday

Fire crews were alerted to the gas main rupture at 11:03 a.m. on Shadowfax Drive and Yakima Circle, the San Jose Fire Department said. According to officials, a contractor struck a 2-inch plastic gas line.

The ruptured line was clamped by 12:21 p.m., fire officials said in an update.
