Oakland voted #1 Best Food City in U.S. by Condé Nast: ‘no wrong neighborhood’

(KRON) — Move over, Big Apple. It’s time to take a bite out of The Town.

Oakland has claimed the title of #1 Best Food City in the U.S., as voted by readers in the 2024 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards.

“There’s no wrong neighborhood from which to start exploring Oakland’s staggeringly diverse food scene,” said Condé Nast.

The publication highlighted Oakland’s “vibrant, diverse culinary scene and unique neighborhoods populated with local hot spots.”

Condé Nast highlighted standout spots like Burdell and Pizzaolo, along with taco trucks serving “some of the best birria in the country.”

Condé Nast Traveler also recognized Oakland’s lively taproom and winery tasting rooms across the city.

The top judging criteria? “Unforgettable food and exceptional dining experiences,” said Condé Nast. A total of 575,048 votes were cast in the magazine’s 37th annual Readers’ Choice Awards.
