OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — Hundreds of residents were asked to evacuate Friday’s 5-alarm Oakland Hills fire off I-580, but what about people and their beloved pets?

Amanda Davis, a resident of Caballo Hills and owner of Temporary Home Pet Rescue, has been working tirelessly to help.

Not only has Davis been on the lookout for stray animals, but she’s also stepped in to retrieve pets that homeowners had to leave behind in the rush to evacuate.

“Pets are really important! We even had a neighbor who didn’t have time to evacuate their animals and only had time to evacuate themselves,” she told KRON4. “So luckily, we were in contact with the neighbors and also the police department who said, ‘Hey, there’s a dog here. Can you go get it?,’ and they allowed us to go in. [The dog] was very scared, and she was semi-aggressive, but she’s now at the East Bay ASPCA.”

Davis regularly partners with the East Bay chapter of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and runs the pet rescue and foster care operation out of her home.
