Car fire on I-580 in Castro Valley spreads to vegetation

( KRON ) — A car fire Sunday afternoon on I-580 in Castro Valley spread to nearby vegetation, according to the Alameda County Fire Department. Officials said a vegetation fire started at 2:45 p.m. on the westbound lanes of the highway in the area of Eden Canyon and Palomares Road.

As of 3:30 p.m., forward progress has been stopped within 30 minutes the fire started. The fire was listed at three acres.

Video (above) shows flames and smoke that appeared to have emanated from the car fire.

The flames traveled up the hillside from the vehicle, officials said. No injuries were reported by ACFD. No structures were threatened, per ACFD.
