Woman accused of holding Lyft driver at gunpoint in Lafayette
An Opelousas woman is accused of aggravated kidnapping after police officers say she held a Lyft driver at gunpoint in Lafayette. The incident happened around 10:10 p.m. Monday. The Lyft driver reported that he picked up the suspect, 37-year-old Denise Thomas of Opelousas, and a child in the 1700 block of N. University Avenue. He told police he gave Thomas his phone to enter the address of her destination, Lafayette Police spokesperson Sgt. Robin Green said in a release.
AcA sends professional artists to St. Landry Parish Schools for 54 in-school performances
LAFAYETTE, LA – Reading a story or a play, or listening to music digitally is one thing, but seeing it performed live is another. This week kicks off a series of In-School Performances for students in 24 St. Landry Parish public schools. With 54 shows scheduled, about 6,000 students will experience a live performance over the next 2 weeks.

Early morning collision forces closure of Bayou Grosse Tete Bridge; repair may take months
A barge collision June 6 that caused serious damage to the Bayou Grosse Tete Bridge at the Intracoastal Waterway will leave the artery closed a considerable amount of time. The bridge – completed in 1960 – will remain closed at least six months, according to Rodney Mallett, spokesman for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.
