Girls 5A quarterfinal – Defending champs battle against La Cueva

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) –  A new rivalry may be brewing between La Cueva and Hobbs. After multiple heated battles in recent years, Tuesday night’s quarterfinal game may have been the most physical to date. Through all of the fouls and free throws, Hobbs came out on top 68-44.

In total, the game featured 36 personal fouls and four technical fouls which resulted in 48 combined free throws. Hobbs guard Brynn Hargrove recorded each of the Eagles technicals and she was ejected from the game. She will not be eligible for Hobbs semi-final match.

Through all of the physicality, Hobbs was still able to knock down a plethora of shots. Four Eagles reached double-digit scoring performances as the team combined to shoot 47.9% from the field for the game.

Hobbs is now set to meet Volcano Vista in the semi-finals in what will be a rematch of the last four state championship games.
