SANDOVAL COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – A local nonprofit hosted its first golf tournament to help raise money for young athletes in the state.

The Clubs Foundation is a New Mexico-based organization providing scholarships for kids who may not be able to afford club sports, especially baseball and softball.

On Sunday, the foundation hosted its first golf tournament at the Santa Ana Golf Club, where more than 200 community members and golfers took part.

South Valley named one of ‘coolest Latino’ neighborhoods

Event organizers said they hope the funds raised will allow more players to connect with athletic experiences that will help shape their futures.

The group is just over a year old and has already helped roughly 100 kids, but they hope to help hundreds more. Organizers said their goal is to host more events like this.
