    Celebrity Historian Raffi Andonian speaks on the Spanish-American War armistice and Rough Rider soldiers

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – On August 12, 1898, an armistice brought an end to the Spanish-American War. This war saw the service of “Rough Riders” and many came from New Mexico. Celebrity Historian Raffi Andonian speaks the history of the Rough Riders.

    Andonian says the Rough Riders were organized by Teddy Roosevelt. The Rough Riders were a volunteer regiment of citizen soldiers. These soldiers were recruited from various locations, including New Mexico. The group became very well trained and saw live action in the war, including an important battle in the war, the Battle of San Juan Hill.
