TUCUMCARI, N.M. (KRQE) – A woman has taken a plea deal in connection to her dogs attacking and killing an elderly man last year. Investigators said Mary Montoya and her son Kristopher Morris owned five dogs that roamed around Tucumcari.

In February 2023, at least one of their dogs mauled 64-year-old Stanley Hartt killing the man. Last week, Montoya pled guilty to possessing a dangerous dog leading to a death. Her involuntary manslaughter charge was dropped. The sentencing agreement said she’s facing a maximum of 18 months behind bars.
