CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – Visitors to Carlsbad Caverns National Park now have updated elevators to help explore the caves. European company TK Elevator announced they have completed a two-year project that constructed new traction elevators in the park. The elevators travel 750 feet below the ground, equivalent to the height of the Hoover Dam, and travel around 700 feet per minute.

Construction begins on two major Albuquerque interchanges

The original elevator system was installed in 1955 and required repair and modernization work to enhance the safety and convenience of park visitors. The new elevator system is expected to reduce congestion for contractors, researchers, park staff, and the public.
