Little library dedicated to those lost to crashes on Albuquerque roads

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A new little library in the Kirtland neighborhood hopes to bring more awareness to traffic safety.

Vision Zero is a movement in Albuquerque aimed at minimizing fatal incidents occurring from reckless driving on city streets. Now, a new group hopes a little library will bring more resources to help the problem.

The community held a grand opening for the little library while honoring those lost in traffic-related accidents while walking in their neighborhood. They hope the event inspires the community to create a safer living space.

“NM has been ranked the deadliest state for seven years in a row by the Governor’s Highway Association, and so I wanted to use that knowledge to educate my community and the youth about traffic safety,” said APS Intern Planner Jennifer Lopez. She explained their goal is to build a culture of traffic safety in the state.

Advocates also said they hope to expand the little library with a mural to honor those who have lost their lives.
