Following a unanimous vote at Monday’s city council meeting the city approved the agreement to sub-lease a more than two acre piece of state trust land to the school. The property will expand the campus on Eubank and Innovation Pkwy., making improvements to the bus drop-off area, adding a new cafeteria, adding additional parking, adding new playground equipment and more.

“Enhancing the facilities at NMSBVI will not only improve the daily experience for students but also provide a lasting benefit to our entire community,” said Economic Development Director Max Gruner in a release. The project will have no fiscal impact on the city. The lease will cost the school more than $8,000 per year.
