ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The University of New Mexico Hospital hosted a community listening session in the International District Monday evening to give residents a chance to share their thoughts and concerns. Bernalillo County said the feedback from the session will help the hospital allocate resources and address the most pressing healthcare needs.

One of the main focuses of the meeting was language access to help lower barriers that can lead to misunderstandings, reduced quality of care, and disparities in health outcomes. “Tonight’s topic is an update on interpreter and language services, specifically how we’ve been able to enhance access for our deaf and blind patients and improve their experience at the hospital and how they interact with their healthcare providers,” said UNM Hospital CEO Kate Becker.

The session comes as voters in Bernalillo County will vote on whether or not to extend the UNM mill levy this November.
