    Local businesses celebrate National Black Business Month at Civic Plaza

    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Businesses owned by African Americans came out to Civic Plaza in Albuquerque on Friday to wrap up National Black Business Month. City leaders came out in support of the event which featured businesses and organizations looking to empower minorities who are trying to make their mark on the community.

    “It’s so invaluable that we support underrepresented communities that have not had equality in terms of access to capital… Or who often have been unseen within our business community,” said Neema Pickett, City of Albuquerque, Office of Black Community Management.

    The month of August was designated as National Black Business Month in 2004.
