ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The man who allegedly shot an Albuquerque Police Department officer in the hand after being caught in a stolen car is being held on federal charges.

On December 30, APD said they pulled up behind a stolen car at the Adams Food Market on Central. They said Perez was the driver. Perez reportedly got out of the car and opened fire, hitting Officer Zachary Garris in the hand.

Officers returned fire as Perez tried to run away, hitting him in the arm and leg. Officer Garris lost part of his finger. Perez will stay locked up through trial.
