    NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The high school football season is in full swing. Here is a look at scores and highlights from week 2 of Friday Night Football.

    Las Cruces: 24 — Volcano Vista: 27

    Game of the Week

    Los Lunas and Cleveland both didn’t have the week one they envisioned. The two perennial playoff teams met at Lightning Bolt Stadium looking for the first win of the season. Cleveland dominated the run game and won 55-7.

    “Man, its exciting to see these guys,” said Cleveland head coach Robert Garza. “They came out fired up and ready to play. We challenged them all week to establish the line of scrimmage and I feel like we were able to run the ball and do exactly what we want to do.”

    Mesa Tractor Student Athlete of the Week

    Bernalillo’s Ivan Ruiz was a menace all over the field during the Spartans week 1 victory over Valley. Ruiz recorded two interceptions, returned one for a touchdown, recorded a fumble and caught a receiving touchdown.

    Kidzz Mechanical Kick Return of the Week

    Last Saturday Eldorado sophomore Jahari Morehead went the distance. The kick-six would be crucial for the eagles in their 21-to-12 victory over Organ Mountain.

    High school football Thursday night highlights – Week 2

    The Numbers Game

    According to MaxPreps week 1 statistics, St. Pius X sophomore running back Hershul Olloway Jr. arguably had the best individual outing to open the season. Not only did he rush for 262 yards and four touchdowns, but he did it on only 15 carries. That averages out to 17.5 yards per rush, and a trip to the end zone once every four touches.
