ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A driver smashed into an Albuquerque Fire Rescue truck in July. The crash happened as the fire truck was responding to a different crash in the Northeast Heights.

The crash was caused by a driver, officials say had been drinking earlier that night and it left the fire truck out of service. Luckily no one was injured, but the video shows just how much damage was caused by the crash.

The incident happened close to 8:20 p.m. on July 1, as AFR was responding to a different crash on Tramway and Montgomery. AFR crew members were just feet away from the truck when it was hit. Witnesses and police said the driver who crashed into the fire truck was driving at a high speed. Adding, the driver didn’t even try to slow down.

The driver, 19-year-old Isabella Haney Houston, told police she had one alcoholic drink before the crash. Emotional, she told police she was headed to meet some friends when she failed to see the fire truck and crashed. Houston tells the police this was her first crash or incident.

After searching Houston’s car, multiple alcohol bottles were found inside. One officer can be heard saying they found a vodka bottle and two other alcohol bottles that belonged to the driver.

Houston was taken to the Metropolitan Detention Center and then escorted to Lovelace Hospital for medical attention. She was then transported back to MDC and held overnight.

Houston is facing a misdemeanor DWI charge. She blew almost twice the legal limit. She was released on her personal recognizance. Meanwhile, AFR told us earlier this summer that the damaged fire truck would be out of commission for six to eight months.

"...she told police she was headed to meet some friends when she failed to see the fire truck and crashed." Happens all the time. Drunk, distracted drivers somehow overlooking GIANT VEHICLES, designed to be HIGHLY VISIBLE, parked in the middle of the road FOR THE PURPOSE OF STOPPING OR SLOWING TRAFFIC! I'm a first responder, and we simply must be highly vigilant when working incidents on our roads and highways. Please don't drink and drive. Please stay off your phones when driving.
