    [1] Santa Fe man suspected of driving in stolen vehicle, prompting shootings – Officials say Santa Fe Police was given information about a stolen vehicle around 2 a.m., and about 7 hours later, the owner was sharing tracking information with officials. The vehicle was found near Cerrillos Rd. and St. Francis Dr., but fled when officers tried to perform a traffic stop. Later, a deputy with the sheriff’s office tried to stop the vehicle, but it fled again. Near Nusbaum St. an officer-involved shooting took place while police were trying to make contact with the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Justin Jimenez. He reportedly fled toward Palace Ave. and Nusbaum St., and another officer-involved shooting happened. Two more officer-involved shootings took place in different areas, and the vehicle finally stopped near East Palace Ave. and Canyon Rd. Jimenez was taken into custody and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

    [2] City of Carlsbad to consider ban on single-use plastic bags – The city of Carlsbad is considering a ban on single use plastic bags. Under the ordinance restaurants and retails establishments within the city would no longer be able to give out plastic bags. Instead, they would be encouraged to offer paper or reusable bags for free or a small charge. Carlsbad city council will vote on the ordinance at a city council meeting on September 24.

    [3] Mostly dry & temperatures heating up again – Temperatures across the region rise from the morning school commute into the high 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and near 90 degrees for a few areas by the afternoon. Relatively light upper-level winds, generally from the northwest, will push the storms slowly to the southeast this evening, but then as a high pressure system builds from the Four Corners.

    [4] Funeral services set for off-duty Albuquerque police officer killed in hit-and-run – The funeral for the Albuquerque police officer that was killed in a hit and run is set to be held Monday. Officer Bianca Quintana started her career in Los Lunas in 2020 and joined APD in 2022. The funeral procession will leave Los Lunas at 9:30 a.m. and head to Legacy Church in northwest Albuquerque.

    [5] Albuquerque boy featured in National Down Syndrome Society video – 6-year-old Bodhi Candelaria was selected to be part of the annual National Down Syndrome Society’s video presentation. The one-hour video features 500 photographs of children, teens, and adults living with Down Syndrome from all 50 states and 14 countries. Bodhi and his family went to the Big Apple to see the video in person.
