    NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Check out community events around New Mexico from September 13-19.

    Albuquerque

    • September 13-14 All About Birds – The Bird Alliance of Central New Mexico invites you to the Public Library in Downtown Albuquerque for this event from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
    • September 13-14 The Show – Albuquerque’s longest-running comedy show happens every Friday and Saturday at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.
    • September 13-15 The New Mexico State Fair – Enjoy live events, exhibits from across the state, tons of food, and a lively midway through next week at Expo New Mexico.
    • September 14 Downtown Growers’ Market – This happens every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to noon at Robinson Park.
    • September 14 West Coast Swing Fundraiser – There will be a beginner dance lesson from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with social dancing after that. Enjoy a night of fun, friendship, and fundraising with proceeds going to the Trevor Project.
    • September 14 International Observe the Moon Night 2024 – Expect moon activities, a live raptor presentation, lunar eclipse talk, and night sky viewing (weather permitting). Event begins at 5:00 p.m.
    • September 14 Flower Arranging Workshop – Big Jim Farms hosts this event where you pick your own flowers and use them in a guided workshop on the art of flower arranging. There are time slots at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
    • September 15 Albuquerque Isotopes vs. Las Vegas Aviators – Game begins at 1:35 p.m.
    • September 15 Gratitude Day at the Rail Yards Market – The Rail Yards is showing gratitude for their vendors and farmers, amazing crew, and customers. Begins at 10:00 a.m.
    • September 19 Ancora and Albuquerque’s Songwriter’s Cooperative Open Mic – Every Thursday night at Ancora Cafe and Bakery, try your hand at performing some of your own music. Begins at 5:00 p.m.

    New Mexico

    • September 13 Taos County Job Fair – UNM-Taos in conjunction with the Taos County Chamber of Commerce, the Department of Workforce Solutions, and the Regional Development Corporation will host this hiring event beginning at 2:00 p.m.
    • September 13 Make and Believe Time – This kids’ art and story time inside Meow Wolf Santa Fe beginning at 10:00 a.m.
    • September 13 HIVE Game Night – This free, fun-filled night begins at 5:30 p.m. at 1146 Gusdorf Rd. in Taos.
    • September 13 Second Annual Pop-up Market – Amazing finds, original art, jewelry, and more in Gallup. Event begins at 10:00 a.m.
    • September 14 2024 Silver City Farmers’ Market – The market at 1120 N. Main St. in Silver City begins at 9:00 a.m. to noon.
    • September 14 Climb the Cube 9/11 Remembrance Stair Climb – The New Mexico Museum of Space History hosts this event which starts at 7:00 a.m. in Alamogordo.
    • September 14 Farmer’s Market in Alamogordo – Check out offerings from local farmers, crafters, bakers, and more from Otero County. Runs from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
    • September 15 Sunday Chess Club – Popolo’s Games in Taos will host this free chess club open to all ages at 1:00 p.m.
    • September 17 Santa Fe Farmers’ Market – The Santa Fe Farmers’ Market is open year-round on Tuesdays in the heart of the Santa Fe Railyard.
    • September 17 Swing on the Plaza – This free event at the Plaza De Las Cruces begins with a free swing dance lesson at 7:00 p.m. and an open dance at 8:00 p.m.

    Albuquerque Notices

    🔶 City looking for volunteers to help clean park, neighborhoods ahead of Balloon Fiesta – The City of Albuquerque Solid Waste Management Department and Keep Albuquerque Beautiful, in partnership with Imagine ABQ, will host the Fiesta Fanatics Cleanup Event at Balloon Fiesta Park and throughout Albuquerque.

    🔶 UNM asking voters to vote in favor of GO Bond 3 to repair humanities building – The humanities building was built in 1971 and has had smaller renovations since its construction. The building has been a staple on UNM’s campus for decades welcoming freshman class after freshman class. Now, a year from now, it could look completely different should the general obligation bond pass.

    🔶 Del Norte High School holding 60-year anniversary celebration on October 5 – Albuquerque Public Schools said Del Norte High School was established in 1964 on the same land the school sits on today near Montgomery and San Mateo.

    🔶 2024 New Mexico State Fair: Helpful information and planned events – Fall is approaching, and that means county and state fairs are right around the bend. This year, the New Mexico State Fair is being held from September 5 to September 15.

    🔶 PHOTOS: Guide to hidden gems of the New Mexico State Fair – The New Mexico State Fair is about halfway over. Much has been said about the Cartoon Poodles and the Speakeasy at this year’s event, but there are staples of the State Fair that have been around for decades and truly showcase the unique qualities of the people around the state.

    🔶 Here are the new special shape balloons to look for at the 52nd Balloon Fiesta – This year’s event will include 16 new shapes, adding up to 106 special shapes in total.

    🔶 UNM adding back-in parking spaces along Campus Blvd. – Crews are adding more than 100 angled spaces along Campus Blvd. right next to the dorms. Work got underway on Thursday. It’s expected to continue through October 15.

    🔶 World Indigenous Business Forum coming to Albuquerque in October – The event will bring in more than 1,000 visitors and 20 guest speakers from around the world, to promote and learn about businesses from across the United States, and more than 20 different countries.

    🔶 2024 Twinkle Light Parade applications open – The event, which is family-friendly and free, is scheduled for December 15 at 5:15 p.m. It’ll be in Nob Hill. Local businesses, the community, and school groups come together to present the dazzling sight. To get involved, you can apply here.

    🔶 Museum of Nuclear Science and History opening new exhibit – The National Museum of Nuclear Science and History is unveiling a new exhibit: Mission Aerospace. The new exhibit is a multi-layered, interactive exploration of aviation history and aerospace milestones. The new exhibit opens June 22 and runs through October 6.

    New Mexico Notices

    🔶 $125M authorized for affordable housing program in New Mexico – The Opportunity Enterprise Housing Development Program is focused on developers building housing for families that may be ineligible for other affordable housing programs. Applications to utilize the funds are made in three rounds. The first one is happening now and will end on October 16.

    🔶 Increased trash and recycling fees for unincorporated Bernalillo County – The new rate increase add to under $1.22 for the average customer with one recycling and one trash container. Bernalillo County’s Board of Commissioners voted to approve the increased rate to adjust to the increased operation costs of the county’s waste collection service provider, Waste Management.

    🔶 New Mexico Secretary of State testifies on election confidence and combating misinformation – Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver was among the six top election officials from states fielding questions from lawmakers on the House Administration Committee. She said more needs to be done to combat the rise in misinformation that is eroding the public’s trust.

    🔶 Report: Roughly 13% of children in NM child welfare system experience abuse, neglect – It’s estimated that 13% of New Mexico kids in the child welfare system experience abuse or neglect, compared to less than 8% at the national level.

    🔶 Ruidoso leaders speak on damage caused by wildfires and flooding – Sharing their hardships, the Ruidoso Downs Race Track gave lawmakers a first-hand explanation of how the Salt and South Fork fires and related flash floods have caused millions in damage and weeks of closures.

    🔶 New Mexico Attorney General urges federal lawmakers to require social media warning labels – Raúl Torrez joined 41 other colleagues in a letter to Congressional leadership saying social media platforms have fueled a mental health crisis among young people. It comes months after U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy said warnings about the dangers are needed like the ones on cigarettes.

    🔶 Law enforcement officials push for changes to DWI blood test policy – State police say if a driver does not consent to a blood draw, officers must get a warrant and can only do so in felony arrests.

    🔶 Los Alamos Police Department warns public about email scam – Police say they have received several reports of emails threatening to release personal information or videos unless a payment is made. Los Alamos Police says anyone who receives these emails should label it as spam or fraud, delete it, and remember not to send anyone money or payment information.

    🔶 Pecos Adventure Day taking place on September 28 – The kid’s fishing derby will take place at Monastery Lake from 7 a.m. to noon. The river cleanup will start at the Pecos American Legion and will take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

    🔶 Notice a haze in New Mexico skies? Here’s why – Forecast models show that the smoke will begin to arrive in the early hours on Thursday and will thicken as the morning progresses. Silver City and Gallup may see the heaviest smoke around 6 a.m.; however, a majority of the state will see a thin layer of haze come Noon.
