NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Air-masses are beginning to collide across the region and with that, one more push of widespread storms, which are already occurring, will move through today, leaving behind full-like weather afterwards. Strong thunderstorms are moving through Mosquero and parts of the Four Corners with light rain in the Northern Mountains with patchy fog as while conditions are relatively humid mostly everywhere, conditions are starting to dry out to the west, as well as higher up in the atmosphere. To start, temperatures are mostly in the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s, while some mountain areas are starting off in the high 30’s, while some southwestern areas are starting off in the 70’s.

    Forecast Continues Below

As temperatures across the region rise from the morning school commute into the high 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and low 90’s by the afternoon, plenty of moisture in the air, along with just enough daytime heating, will lead to widespread thunderstorms across the northeastern two-thirds of the region. the San Juan Mountains, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the Zuni Mountains, and eventually the Northeastern Highlands, the Lincoln National Forest, as well as a good swath of the Rio Grande Valley, will most likely experience the northeasterly-moving batches of precipitation later this morning, as well as into the afternoon, with some isolated flooding possible. Within the areas that will likely rain, some hail, erratic wind gusts, frequent lightning strikes, and rapidly-dropping temperatures are possible.

Stronger southwesterly upper-level winds across New Mexico have returned, allowing for the moisture to shift northeastward. Near-to-eventually above-normal high temperatures will ensue, but near-to-slightly below-normal low temperatures will more likely occur.
