SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – The New Mexico State Police (NMSP) reported a shooting on Sunday.

NMSP stated there was an officer-involved shooting in the 100 block of La Placita Circle. It involved the Santa Fe Police Department (SFPD).

Around 6 a.m., SFPD was called to the area for a violent person armed with a box cutter. The person was named to be Stephanie Coon (who identified as “Gracen”), 33, of Santa Fe, and he was allegedly making threats to kill someone.

Officers claimed Coon approached them with the box cutter when they arrived. They told him to drop the weapon, and at least one officer fired their duty weapon. Coon was hit, and officers attempted to render medical aid. Coon was taken to a hospital but eventually died.

    No officers were reported injured.
