ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A hotly debated law on E-bikes in Albuquerque’s trails is in effect. The law allows all classes on E-bike on all paved trails and those designated by the Parks and Recreation Department.

It also caps the speed limit to 20 miles an hour unless otherwise posted. The proposal garnered a lot of attention from both E-bike opponents and supporters, but the council eventually approved it earlier this summer.

E-bike advocates speak out amid proposed regulation by Albuquerque City Council

Some trails already have signage saying E-bikes are not allowed there. “Enforcement is as good as all of us working together to show respect and share the trail, but where enforcement is needed, it will be done,” says David Simon, Director of the Parks and Recreation Department.

The Parks and Rec Department has a map showing which open space trails allow E-bikes available online .

It's not all abled bodies who use ebikes. But it is all abled bodies who ruin it for everyone else. People who NEED an ebike or trike get to get out & enjoy outdoor life like everyone else. Without help. Yet many people who use reg bikes think all ebikers are lazy & entitled. And many ebikers act entitled & yell we deserve to be here. Why does there need to be laws or regulations telling people to act like adults & get along, respect one side of the trail, pull over so one can pass if need be & so on? Geez. No one has any shame. None at all.

Can we get a map of trails allowing normal bicycles? The app All Trails doesn’t work. 2 trails I found had signs posted saying no bikes.
