    Two New Mexico charter schools awarded $2 million in grant funding

    NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Public Charter Schools of New Mexico (PCSNM) is awarding $4 million in funding to two New Mexico Charter Schools. The Sacramento School of Engineering and Science in Alamogordo and Equip Academy of New Mexico in Albuquerque will each receive $2 million.

    The Sacramento School of Engineering and Science will be the first public charter school in Alamogordo and will be focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) education. The funding will help support the school, which will serves students in 9 – 12th grade.

    Equip Academy of New Mexico serves students from K – 5th grade. Founder Mercy Herrera says the school’s mission includes a dedication to culturally responsive education and creating a community where students can thrive.

    Funding will come as subgrants of the Charter School Program grant. This was awarded to PCSNM from the U.S. Department of Education in 2023.
