ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Two hikers were rescued from the La Luz trail in the Sandia Mountains Monday night.

Albuquerque Fire Rescue, Bernalillo County Fire Rescue, and New Mexico Search and Rescue responded to the mountain rescue call. The hikers were reported to be suffering from the effects of the altitude on the descent.

AFR said a friend was able to report the hikers’ last known location before their phones died. County crew members found the hikers and reported that one hiker was not able to walk out on their own.

That hiker was brought down the mountain on a wheeled stokes basket. Both hikers were taken to the hospital. The rescue began just after 6 p.m. and ended just after 2 a.m. on Tuesday.
