Temperatures stay warm across New Mexico through this weekend. However, cooler weather is on its way.

This week is yet another week of summer like temperatures for New Mexico. The high pressure system to out southwest is continuing to strengthen as we move toward the weekend. This strengthening high pressure is allowing for the temperatures to continue to climb. On Friday, the high pressure will move itself directly over south central New Mexico. Bringing record breaking heat to some.

The high pressure system is also allowing for minimal rainfall. Today will be the most active day this week. Spotty showers could be seen in the Northern Mountains, Sacramento Mountains, and Gila National Forest. Some of these showers may evaporate before hitting the ground. Tomorrow rain chances will be isolated to the Gila National Forest. There is also a chance for a very spotty shower over the Sacramento Mountains.

A backdoor cold front will be moving through New Mexico by Tuesday morning. This front will bring the state a much needed cool down. Temperatures will be dropping as much as 15 degrees across the state. High Temperatures after the front will still be warmer than average. But it is a step in the right direction towards fall temperatures.
