SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – Two “known retail offenders” were arrested by the Santa Fe Police on Sunday, according to the department.

Police responded to Target on Zafarano Drive for a report of two people, later identified as Leonard Esquibel, 33, and Rayna Martinez, 23, who were reportedly loading up a shopping cart with merchandise.

The office learned that Esquibel had eleven active arrest warrants and Martinez had four active arrest warrants. The two suspects attempted to flee out of a fire exit in the back of the business but were met by police.

Esquibel and Martinez then ran back inside Target. Police eventually found the duo in the warehouse area of the store and arrested them. Both suspects were booked into the Santa Fe Adult Detention Center.

Esquibel had a total of eleven active arrest warrants; eight warrants for shoplifting, a warrant for receiving/transferring a stolen motor vehicle, a warrant for battery, and a warrant for robbery. Martinez had four active arrest warrants for both misdemeanor and felony shoplifting.

They were also charged with misdemeanor shoplifting and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer for Sunday’s incident.
