ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque Fire Rescue is giving a look at new artwork that could soon be featured at a new fire station at Coronado Park.

A new metal sculpture is now on site, honoring a former landmark of Coronado Park, Santa Fe Locomotive 2926. The train was retired in 1953 and was one of the last steam trains built for the Santa Fe Railroad. It was eventually donated to the City of Albuquerque and put on display in 1957.

The artwork of a retired firefighter will also be highlighted at the future Coronado Fire Station. AFR says the retiree created chainsaw carvings out of stumps from elm trees planted in Coronado Park in the 30’s and 40’s. The city expects to break ground on the new station in December.
