Yesterday’s cold front did its job in cooling off New Mexico today. It has also brought scattered showers to western and central New Mexico.

Fall temperatures have officially arrived to New Mexico after a cold front moved through the state last night. Temperatures have dropped around 10+ degrees for most of the state. This temperatures drop is due to a combination of cold air moving in and wind gusts.

The front has also brought isolated to scattered storms today. Isolated storms have already popped up earlier this afternoon across western and northern New Mexico. The rain is focusing in the upper elevations. Later this afternoon and through the evening this rain should intensify. Much of western, northern, and parts of central New Mexico could see showers tonight.

Excess moisture will get drawn up on Thursday before the next large storm system. This moisture will result in widespread showers and storms across New Mexico.

A strong low pressure system forms by Friday. This will send a pacific cold front through New Mexico on Friday. This front will bring much cooler air and windier conditions Friday afternoon through Saturday. Widespread rain can be expected through the weekend as well. These storms have the potential to be severe. The front will also assist in the expected snowfall in the northern mountains over the weekend.
