NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham is ordering flags to half-staff later this week in honor of late state Senator John Arthur Smith. Smith served New Mexico for more than three decades, representing people from Doña Ana, Hildago, Luna, and Sierra counties. He was known for being fiscally conservative and good at reaching across the aisle for bipartisan collaboration.

He passed away on October 7 at the age of 82. Flags will be lowered from sunrise on Friday until sundown on Monday.
