Numerous showers and storms have already begun popping up across New Mexico this afternoon. Temperatures continue to stay cool.

Upper lever moisture has increased over New Mexico today ahead of the fall storm. This increased moisture is resulting in widespread showers and storms. Early this afternoon the showers began over the mountains and western New Mexico. The rain will increase throughout the day. It will be the strongest over the mountains. Leading to a possibility of flooding in burn scar areas.

A strong low pressure system is moving towards New Mexico today. By Friday, the low will plant itself to the southwest of the Four Corners. This low pressure will be responsible for windy conditions and storms across New Mexico this weekend.

On Friday, windy conditions are expected in central and southwest New Mexico. Rain chances will be widespread across the state. The potential for severe storms will be in eastern New Mexico. Saturday will be similar to Friday in terms of wind and rain. The rain and storms Saturday will cover more area in the southwest than Friday. The severe storm threat on Saturday is slightly larger than Friday. But still isolated to eastern New Mexico.

Snow has begun to fall for the mountain peaks! Some snow accumulation is already noticeable along several of the ski resorts in northern New Mexico and southwest Colorado. More snow is expected for these higher elevations over the weekend.
